The concept of the “bachelor machine” refers to an autonomous system that, despite its ability to function independently, lacks a true purpose, becoming useless within the contemporary technological age.
In this context, Cuore celibe (Bachelor Heart) explores the human condition through the metaphor of the body as a machine whose functions do not necessarily correspond to a meaningful existence. Faced with the absurdity of life and the dominance of technology, the human being attempts to construct a unique identity before the inevitable dissolution of the self.
Through the interaction with a scientifically detailed reproduction of a heart, the viewer becomes the only agent capable of giving meaning to existence. By controlling its heartbeat via a MIDI controller, the viewer transforms the rhythm and form of the work by creating a unique biological signature that distinguishes each individual from all others.
